24 HOURS TO GO

Phase two of the project begins tomorrow. The team will leave Winnipeg tomorrow morning and arrive in Kampala on Friday evening. Marc Kuly is joining me from Winnipeg as a Senior Research Assistant. Marc is an experienced teacher and has worked with newcomer youth for many years. He is also the teacher in “The Storytelling Class,” a documentary about high school students who use the art of storytelling to learn about each other, to cope with adversity and adjust to life in Canada. Dr. Jody Lynn Mc Brien is co-investigator for the project and will be meeting us in Belgium for the last leg of the flight. Dr. Mc Brien has conducted several projects and written numerous articles on refugee education. She has been working on this project for the past year and will be spending two weeks in northern Uganda working on this data collection phase. I will be in Uganda for the month conducting the data collection and then working with Dr. Dean Peachey in Gulu and Kitgum to do the follow up consultation with the teachers who took part in the first phase of the project. Dr. Dean Peachey is the Vice-Principal of The Global College and has worked in the field of restorative justice for many years.

We will be updating the blog as often as possible. When we get to Kampala we will have a day to recover then Lynn, Marc and I will be taking part in a team-building activity on Sunday before we head up north for the rest of the time.
